Laying stairs runner. Place one strip near the front and one near the back of the stair. Cut carpet pad the same width as the tackless strips and 3 inches longer than the depth of the tread. Wiggle the runner slightly pressing the tape into the carpet.

Fold the rough edge of the new runner under and staple it in place along a tread and riser seam. Measure the gap cut these out and youll THANK me. In addition to stapling the carpet to the stairs some people also like the look of adding stair rods.
Cut the thick binding off the bottom of your first runner and the top of your second one. To estimate how long a runner youll need have your installer measure the depth of the stair tread and the height of the riser. Repeat as needed to cover.
