Garden Stairs Dimensions
A general rule of thumb for garden steps is a 15cm maximum riser and 30cm minimum tread depth.
Garden stairs dimensions. If you intend users to take an additional pace between risers add at least 700mm on to the tread dimension. Risers you really want to stay at a height of about 150mm 165mm 6 6½ This will conform with the standard building code that will be safe for everyone to walk up and down. I like to make garden steps with a riser of 150mm and a minimum tread width of 300mm.
In general the smaller the rise the bigger the tread. Such dimensions are assessed based on the formula 2R G. Our stair stringers range from 1-17 treads steps and are made for standard rise and going and work on a 1000mm between centres of the stringers.
Twice the height of the riser plus the tread should equal 26 inches 6604 centimetres. Laid out in his seminal work Gardens Are for People it says simply that twice the height of the riser plus the tread should equal 26 inches. Made a set of steps with two cement slabs 2ft square and supported the back of the slabs using a brick where the slabs came together.
The rise is the vertical measurement taken from one step level to the nextStandard rise is 175mm. As a rule of thumb I would suggest you choose risers between 120mm and 160mm and treads between 280 minimum and 450mm with a preference for 300mm or more. Styles of steps for the garden can vary as much as anything else but its important to fit them into your theme when building them.
Comfortable two person stair widths range between 49 125 cm to 60 152 cm. The building codes laid out in the IRC recommend that each step by a minimum of 10 inches 25 cm wide in order to provide secure footing. In doing so we shall calculate the dimensions of the steps and the staircase.
As a general rule the riser should be no more than 15 centimetres high 59 inches with the tread at least 30 centimetres 1181 inches deep. In gardens were often moving at a slower pace. Handrails must be placed every 60 152 cm.
