Concrete Stairs Separating From Wall
Mix the concrete in a wheelbarrow or small concrete mixer.
Concrete stairs separating from wall. Looking from below it appears that the stairs were never secured to the wall itself. I believe the pool was only two thirds full all winter and the top of the wall was pushed in. A larger area with holes crumbling concrete or structural damage may need quick setting cement.
Steps separating from porch. Its about a 3-4 inch gap. Segregation of concrete is the separation of cement paste and aggregates of concrete from each other during handling and placement.
Small areas with superficial chips or cracks may only need a concrete patching compound. My concrete steps have pulled away from house 1 14 inches and I am interested in trying to fix them myself. Took the cover off my in ground pool and the fiberglass wall on one side has bulged inward creating a gap between the pool wall and the concrete slab that was poured up to it.
There might be a small crack between the steps and the porch as seen in this photo below. This is when anxiety sets in. Accordingly it is necessary to construct these elements in accordance with the Approved Document E which indicates that sound testing of such areas would not normally be required.
Noticed a few weeks ago that a gap is opening between the baseboard and the stairs to the second floor of our house. Segregation also occurs due to over-vibration or compaction of concrete in which cement paste comes to the top and aggregates settles at the bottom. One of the most common problems are loose stairs that begin to pull away from the wall.
Unlike wood this material will resist rotting. Cement steps may settle due to an improperly prepared base. The lots were dug out next door on both sides with pretty significant soil drop on that.
